Raisa, a 90-year-old Holocaust survivor who has difficulty walking, was living on her own in Odessa. Her son had passed away two years ago due to illness. Her only remaining family was three granddaughters all of whom live in Israel.
When the fighting broke out and people fled the city, her granddaughters reached out to United Hatzalah and asked them to help save their grandmother’s life. Rabbi Hillel Cohen, Director of United Hatzalah in Ukraine arranged for an ambulance to bring her to the Moldovan border where she met United Hatzalah’s volunteers who brought her food and clothing and checked her medical status.
On Wednesday, she was brought to a shelter in Chisinau run by the local Jewish community. Early Thursday morning, together with 160 Ukrainian refugees, she was brought by bus to the Iasi airport in Romania, where she boarded a flight to come back home to Israel to be reunited with her granddaughters.
“What happened here was a miracle,” said Michal, one of Raisa’s granddaughters. “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Sobrevivente do Holocausto ucraniana se reencontra com parentes em Israel
Raisa, uma sobrevivente do Holocausto de 90 anos que tem dificuldade para andar, morava sozinha em Odessa. Seu filho havia falecido há dois anos devido a uma doença. Sua única família restante eram três netas, todas morando em Israel.
Quando a luta começou e as pessoas fugiram da cidade, suas netas entraram em contato com a United Hatzalah e pediram que ajudassem a salvar a vida de sua avó. O rabino Hillel Cohen, diretor da United Hatzalah na Ucrânia, providenciou uma ambulância para levá-la à fronteira com a Moldávia, onde ela encontrou os voluntários da United Hatzalah que trouxeram comida e roupas e verificaram seu estado médico.
Na quarta-feira, ela foi levada para um abrigo em Chisinau administrado pela comunidade judaica local. Na manhã de quinta-feira, junto com 160 refugiados ucranianos, ela foi levada de ônibus para o aeroporto de Iasi, na Romênia, onde embarcou em um voo para se reunir com suas netas em Israel.
“O que aconteceu aqui foi um milagre”, disse Michal, uma das netas de Raisa. “Obrigado do fundo de nossos corações.”
