Before the pandemic, librarian Juan Sobrino visited old people’s homes in the Soto del Real region of Spain, promoting reading circles with residents. But the distancing imposed by the current situation led him to find a new way to fill these people’s lives.
He then had the idea of making phone calls to the elderly. Over time, other librarian colleagues joined Juan, leading to the creation of the project “Cuentos por teléfono” or “Tales on the Telephone”. The group is organised so that each volunteer always reads to the same person, creating a bond between the two.
Bibliotecário lê livros por telefone para idosos
Antes da pandemia, o bibliotecário Juan Sobrino visitava lares de idosos da região de Soto del Real, na Espanha, para promover rodas de leitura com os moradores. No entanto, com o distanciamento imposto pela situação atual, teve que procurar uma nova maneira para preencher a vida dessas pessoas.
Foi assim que surgiu a ideia de fazer ligações por telefone para esses idosos. Com o tempo, outros colegas bibliotecários se juntaram a Juan, possibilitando a criação do projeto “Cuentos por teléfono”. O grupo se organizou de forma que cada voluntário lê sempre para o mesmo idoso, possibilitando a criação de vínculo entre a dupla.
