On 14 September, the Jewish Community of Oporto and the Catholic Diocese of Oporto donated 20 thousand euros to four institutions active in fighting hunger and poverty which have been exacerbated by the pandemic.
This amount comprises the proceeds from the film The Light of Judah, launched in June as part of an inter-religious project between the Jewish Community of Oporto, the Catholic Diocese of Oporto and B’nai B’rith International. It is one of four films produced in conjunction, and is available on Vimeo.
The charities that will benefit are the Food Bank, the “Porta Solidária” project of the Parish Social Centre of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, the Diocesan Work of Social Promotion of the Catholic Diocese of Oporto and the Parish Social Centre of Sé.
As stated by Dias Ben Zion, President of the Jewish Community of Oporto, "Every person who watched the film helped the hungry, engaged with two cultures and religions and said no to anti-Semitism”. The following day Ben Zion was received by Rui Moreira, the Mayor of Oporto, to attend a meeting and tour the Town Hall.
Comunidade Judaica e Diocese do Porto se unem para combater a fome
No dia 14 de setembro, a Comunidade Judaica do Porto e a Diocese do Porto doaram 20 mil euros para quatro instituições que atuam no combate da fome e da pobreza acentuadas pela pandemia.
O valor é fruto das receitas do filme A Luz de Judá, lançado em junho como parte de um projeto inter-religioso entre a Comunidade Judaica do Porto, a Diocese do Porto e a B’nai B’rith Internacional. Este é um dos quatro filmes produzidos em conjunto e está disponível para visualização na plataforma Vimeo.
As instituições beneficiadas foram o Banco Alimentar contra a Fome, o projeto “Porta Solidária” do Centro Social e Paroquial de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, a Obra Diocesana de Promoção Social da Diocese do Porto e o Centro Social e Paroquial da Sé.
Conforme Dias Ben Zion, presidente da Comunidade Judaica do Porto, "Cada pessoa que viu o filme ajudou os que têm fome, uniu-se a duas culturas e religiões e disse não ao antissemitismo". No dia seguinte, Ben Zion foi recebido por Rui Moreira, presidente da Câmara Municipal do Porto, para reunião e visita à Câmara.
