On Tuesday , 28 May, the Jewish Community of Oporto received representatives of the Oporto Committee for Interfaith Dialogue for a visit to its premises, followed by a meeting and a kosher dinner.
Those present included Father Jardim Moreira and Sofia Salgado, of the Catholic Church, Abdul Mangá and Jaime Soares, of Oporto Islamic Cultural Centre, Rui Silva, of the Oporto Hare Krishna Community, and Fernando Lima, of the Oporto Buddhist Community.
The group were given a tour of the Synagogue and the Jewish Museum by Michael Rothwell, museum director and member of the interfaith group, the vice-president of the Jewish Community of Oporto, Isabel Ferreira Lopes, and the curator Hugo Vaz.
Following the visit and the meeting, participants were welcomed to the synagogue library where they were served a kosher dinner, with traditional dishes of Jewish cuisine.
The interfaith group started in March 2023, on the initiative of the Catholic Church. It meets once a month to discuss matters of common interest among the various faiths. In March of this year, the group was received at Oporto Diocese by Bishop Dom Manuel Linda to sign a letter of principles.
Comunidade Israelita do Porto recebe representantes das principais religiões do Porto
Na terça-feira, 28 de maio, a Comunidade Israelita do Porto recebeu representantes da Comissão para o diálogo inter-religioso do Porto para uma visita às suas instalações, seguida por uma reunião e um jantar kosher.
Estiveram presentes o Padre Jardim Moreira e Sofia Salgado, da Igreja Católica, Abdul Mangá e Jaime Soares, do Centro Cultural Islâmico do Porto, Rui Silva, da Comunidade Hare Krishna do Porto, e Fernando Lima, da Comunidade Budista do Porto.
O grupo visitou a Sinagoga e o Museu Judaico acompanhados por Michael Rothwell, diretor do museu e membro do grupo inter-religioso, pela vice-presidente da Comunidade Judaica do Porto, Isabel Ferreira Lopes, e pelo museólogo Hugo Vaz.
Após a visita e a reunião, os participantes foram recebidos na biblioteca da Sinagoga, onde foi servido um jantar kosher, com alguns pratos tradicionais da culinária judaica.
O grupo inter-religioso teve início em março de 2023, por uma iniciativa da Igreja Católica, e encontra-se uma vez por mês para conversar sobre temas de interesse comuns entre as religiões. Em março deste ano, o grupo foi recebido na Diocese do Porto pelo Bispo Dom Manuel Linda para a assinatura de uma carta de princípios.
