However, Volf, one of his brothers, escaped from the concentration camp to which he had been taken and spent his life believing he was the only family survivor. He even wrote a posthumous testimony about Eliahu for the central database at Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Museum.
It was this testimony that enabled Alexandre, the son of the late Volf, to travel from Russia to Israel to meet his uncle. “You are the image of your father. I have not slept for two nights as I waited for you”, said Eliahu in Russian to his nephew.
